If your company supports DoD contracts, they often require ISSOs to be compliant with DoD Directive 8570.01A Information Assurance certification, to include Security+, within 6 months of assignment. ISSO Boot Camp is designed to train and prepare students for the Security+ certification exam; deliver the exam; and follow with a week of hands-on ISSO training to jump start your career as an Industry ISSO. 


The Security+ portion is an in-depth 5 day course certified by ISO and accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and provides each student with CompTIA authorized materials, study guides, and exam voucher. Each student will be provided with their own personal computer for the duration of the course.  An on-site exam center with proctor will be available for testing immediately after the course.


The ISSO portion is a 4 day hands-on course and labs will be delivered by experienced professional ISSOs who have supported Industry Intelligence Community, DoD, and Special Access Programs.  This course will provide students with various methods and approaches to implement the Risk Management Framework and NIST Cybersecurity Framework as well as gain understanding of the associated roles, responsibilities, technical security control implementation, and assessment. Taking the student through the daily responsibilities of an ISSO, this course will expose students to various templates, processes, and tools using hands-on computer labs and exercises.  This will include learning and

applying required and best practices in the following areas:

  • Roles and Responsibilities of the ISSO

  • Implementing and Assessing Security Controls (Secure Configuration)

  • System Auditing (system checks and scans)

  • Information System Continuous Monitoring

  • Documentation Creation (SSP, RAR, SAR, POA&M, ISCM Plan, Assessment Plan)

  • Incident Handling and Response

  • Assured File Transfers

  • Compliance Reviews and Self-Inspections
